Steve Hauber - Gannett Healthcare Group, Publisher & CEO

Steve joined Gannett Healthcare Group (formerly Nursing Spectrum) in 2002 and prior to being named Publisher & CEO, was EVP of Advertising, Marketing, and Interactive Services for the company. 

He grew up in southern New Jersey, and has a degree in Journalism from the University of Mississippi.  Steve began his career as an account executive with a CBS affiliate in Lancaster, PA.  He moved on to a position with Genesis/ New World television as a syndicator,creating and selling television shows to network stations all over the country, first working out of New York City and then Los Angeles.

His newspaper career started with Tribune at the Los Angeles Daily News, as an account executive first in retail, then automotive.  From there, he moved to The Washington Post and worked in local and national automotive and later moved into a marketing role.

During the internet boom, Steve worked with Random House in New York, working on marketing and sales efforts for their travel site, www.fodors.com.  Prior to joining Gannett, he worked at The Wall Street Journal in New York, helping to build their Luxury Real Estate presence. 

The Gannett Healthcare Group publishes 13 regional nursing publications with more than one million circulation.  We also publish 15 specialty publications for nursing, as well as the largest circulation Physical Therapy magazine in the country.  We own and operate nurse.com as well as todayinpt.com. 

We hold 40+ career fairs in 29 cities with 20,000+ RN attendees and operate one of the largest continuing education businesses in healthcare.  We have a complete direct mail business, a nursing TV show that runs nationally on WE, are in book publishing with the Nursing Spectrum Drug Handbook, hold nine Nurse of the Year galas around the country,and a operate a consulting business for nursing leaders and organizations.


Eric Kalter - Executive Vice President, Finance / CFO

Eric Kalter is Executive Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Gannett Healthcare Group. Eric is responsible for the leadership and day-to-day operations of Gannett Healthcare Group’s finance functions, including accounting, financial planning and analysis, reporting and forecasting, audit, and Sarbanes Oxley compliance.

Prior to joining Gannett in 2004, Eric has served in many different industries including telecommunications, software, and manufacturing including positions with Fortune 500 companies Convergys and ITW.

Eric began his career in the telecommunications industry and continued to gain extensive experience in all aspects of finance, accounting, technology, and strategic planning while holding various management and executive positions.

Eric holds a Bachelors degree in Accounting from Northern Illinois University.

Eric enjoys golfing, biking, and spending time with his family. He currently resides in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois with his wife and two children.


Melyni Serpa - General Manager, Publications

Melyni started her publishing career more than 25 years ago at McClatchy Newspapers in Modesto, California. In 1992, she moved to Chicago where she worked for the Chicago Sun-Times Company and Copley Newspapers before joining Gannett Healthcare Group (formerly Nursing Spectrum) as Director of Circulation in January of 1996.

Prior to becoming General Manager of Publications, Melyni was EVP of Circulation and Production, and spent a year each in the company’s New England and New York offices serving as Acting Executive Director with responsibility for Sales, Editorial and Production.

She holds a BBA in Management and an MBA with a concentration in Organizational Psychology, Development and Change Management.


Fred DiCostanzo, RN, MA - Executive Vice President, Human Resources

Fred J. DiCostanzo, RN, MA, has been with Gannett Healthcare Group since 1992.  He helped to found the Philadelphia/Tri-State Nursing Spectrum, and he held the positions of associate and then executive director of the division.  Fred has also served as Senior Operations Officer, and Executive Vice President of Professional Services for the company.  In 1996, Fred assumed responsibility for Gannett Healthcare Group’s human resources department, and today he holds the position of executive vice president of human resources.  Fred’s professional background includes nursing and hospital administration, and clinical nursing practice.  In addition to his responsibilities at Gannett Healthcare Group, Fred is adjunct assistant professor in the Health Services Administration program, College of Nursing and Health Professions, Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA.


Meg Donnelly - Executive Vice President, Information Services

Meg joined the Gannett Healthcare Group (GHG) in 2005. Prior to being named Executive Vice President of Information services, she was VP of Planning and Analysis, and Director of Business Applications at GHG.

Meg began her career in Customer Service at Outward Bound, and then with Unilver in Greenwich, Ct.  This provided Meg with the foundation of understanding the value of having a customer centric focus in business.   During her career at Unilver, she was tasked with managing the development of a customer response management system for the over one million customer contacts per year. 

The success of this project inspired Meg to apply her expertise in system development and management so she accepted a position with the software development firm SFI in Whippany, NJ.  While at SFI, she was the lead Project Manager and consultant for implementation of consumer response systems in many fortune 500 companies such as Heinz USA, Playtex Products, and Reckitt and Coleman. 

Meg’s career in publishing began in 2000, when she began working for Media Services Group, developers of software and services for the publishing industry.  She spent the next five years working with many large publishers both in the U.S. and internationally on implementation of financial, CRM, Production, and Conference systems for media companies. 

Meg’s relationship with GHG began in 2003 as a consultant to GHG on system implementation of the MSG software modules.  Her valuable career experience and knowledge of the business strategies and logistics have been the driving  force behind GHG innovative technologies.   


Michael Pierce - Executive Vice President, Interactive Services

Michael Pierce is Executive Vice President of Interactive Services. Michael has been with the company for almost three years overseeing the Online functions of our publications—including nurse.com. todayinpt.com and todayinot.com. Michael came to the company with a diverse background spanning some nearly 30 years in web development, commercial and government consulting and commercial software development. Michael began in his field at the age of 13 growing up at Dartmouth college in Hanover, NH. He continued his education in computer programming while in the USAF working for NORAD and the NSA before entering the commercial/government market in the Northern Virginia area.


Robert Hess, RN, PhD, FAAN - Executive Vice President, Global Programming, Gannett Education

Robert Hess is an educator, editor, author, and consultant. His formal education includes an undergraduate degree in comparative religion from Temple University, a nursing diploma from Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia, a master's degree in nursing administration from Seton Hall University, and a doctorate in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, where he studied organizational theory at the Wharton School. His research involves the development of the only current valid and reliable instruments that measure governance by professionals in healthcare organizations. Both nationally and internationally, researchers, consultants, and administrators have used these instruments to assess, implement, and evaluate shared governance programs and to pursue Magnet status. In 2005, he created the Forum for Shared Governance and its website to meet the needs of staff nurses, administrators, and researchers who are involved in the implementation and evaluation of shared governance models.

An award-winning author, Dr. Hess has written more than 100 articles for numerous journals and books. As an editor, he has been personally responsible for coaching more than 500 healthcare professionals to publish their first articles. He has served on numerous editorial and advisory boards and has been a distinguished lecturer and a distinguished writer for Sigma Theta Tau, International, nursing's honor society. He is a past recipient of several awards from Seton Hall University, the New Jersey State Nurses Association, and the prestigious NJ Governor's Merit for Excellence Award as educator of the year. As a speaker and researcher, Dr. Hess is unflappable, focused, and outspoken, described as “refreshing.”

Dr. Hess is currently executive vice president, continuing education programming, Gannett Healthcare Group, which includes Nursing Spectrum's Division of Continuing Education, the largest CE providership in nursing and the first-ever winner of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Accreditation Premier Program Award, 2007. He is responsible for the development, marketing, and dissemination of continuing education to nurses as well as physical therapists and other healthcare professionals through podcasts, webinars, live seminars, career fairs, study tours, and cruises; through the largest print circulation in nursing; and through the most trafficked websites in nursing, including www.nurse.com, visited frequently by nurses from such far-flung places as Madrid, Athens, Tokyo, Sydney, and Samoa.


Ken Ramirez - Executive Vice President, Global Operations, Gannett Education

Ken Ramirez is an accomplished sales and marketing executive who excels at new business development and strategic growth. Ken has a Bachelors Degree in Marketing and a MBA from Azusa Pacific University, as well as more than 15 years of sales/marketing and leadership experience.

Ken joined Gannett Healthcare Group in 2000 as NurseWeek magazine’s Southern California Regional Sales Manager. He quickly progressed to serve as National Marketing Director as well as Mountain West Advertising Director. Ken’s biggest accomplishments at NurseWeek, and eventually Gannett Healthcare Group, center around the development and growth of the company’s continuing education products and services. Under Ken’s leadership, Gannett Healthcare Group’s education division has flourished into one of Gannett’s fastest growing business units.

Ken is a self-proclaimed computer geek who loves gadgets, video editing, and anything HD. He enjoys getting beat by his kids in virtually all Wii games and lives for spending time on the lake with his family on hot summer weekends.


Judith Mitiguy, RN, MS - Executive Vice President, Editorial/Editor-in-Chief

Judith Surveyer Mitiguy, earned a bachelor of science degree at Boston College School of Nursing; a master of science degree from Boston University, with a concentration in maternal-child nursing; and a second master of science degree from Boston University, with a concentration in healthcare journalism/mass communication.

She joined Gannett Healthcare Group (then Nursing Spectrum) in 2000 as executive director of the New England Division and took on a national editorial position in 2002.

Judith's background includes three years of service as an officer in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, more than 20 years of pediatric nursing practice in Boston hospitals, and 18 years as a healthcare writer, editor, and instructor.

Judith taught pediatric nursing at Boston College in the 1970s, and has conducted numerous workshops on writing for publication across the country.
In addition, she has published several articles in nursing journals, newsletters, and magazines. Judith has received writing awards from the American Medical Writers Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.


Ray Riordan - Executive Vice President, Advertising

Ray Riordan has over 30 years of management experience in multi-media publishing, consumer-products marketing and B2B sales. Ray graduated the Stanford University Publishing Program, also attending both Purdue and Indiana Universities. He held various state, regional and national leadership positions at Shasta Beverage and Miller Brewing Company before joining NurseWeek Publishing Company in 1995. At NPC, he served as VP/Publisher after successful stints as Regional Sales Manager and National Director of Sales & Marketing. After NurseWeek was acquired by Gannett in 2004, he assumed the role as the National EVP of Sales & Marketing, and now manages a sales, marketing, and events team of 50+ employees and is responsible for the majority of the company's revenue generation. He is the proud father of twin teenage girls and has been happily married for over 30 years. Outside of work, Ray is an avid golfer, an accomplished guitar player/singer, and enjoys hiking and camping with his wife, daughters, and their two Australian Shepherds.
